In the face of defeat, Manchester United player Christian Eriksen praises “hard-working” Hannibal Mejbri.
Christian Eriksen, a Manchester United midfielder, spoke on MUTV (via Manchester Evening News) about Hannibal Mejbri’s first senior squad goal at the club.
Hannibal scored the consolation goal as United fell to Brighton & Hove Albion 1-3 at home. The 20-year-old replaced Casemiro in the 64th minute, with the score at 0-2.
Eriksen, on the other hand, played the entire game but failed to make an impression.
Regardless of the outcome, Eriksen believes Hannibal deserved his moment in the spotlight for his efforts. Eriksen elaborated to MUTV (Manchester Evening News):
“I’m very happy for him [Hannibal], he’s a really nice guy who works really hard.” He’s a noisy guy, as you can see on the pitch, but he deserved it. As you mentioned, he was unlucky to score in a loss. I know if he had scored tonight and we had won, he and everyone else would have felt completely different.
Hannibal scored in the 71st minute, after United had already fallen behind by three goals. He struck a fantastically precise strike from outside the Brighton area, leaving the goalie with little chance.
Hannibal shared the bittersweet occasion on social media with his supporters, expressing disappointment at the team’s loss.
The Red Devils have lost three of their last five Premier League games. They will now face Bayern Munich in the first round of the Champions League.
United fans are hoping for more magical moments from Hannibal, with a different conclusion in the game. We draw inspiration from within until the transfer market opens, at which point we can go out and discover answers.
