Erik ten Hag wants to sell 26 y/o star ‘at all cost’ in January

According to a recent claim, Manchester United want to get rid of midfielder Scott McTominay “at any cost.”

McTominay was a frequent starter under previous managers, but Erik ten Hag has mostly utilized him as a squad rotation option.

Throughout the summer, there were various speculations that the Scotsman was on the move, but United openly stated that it would take a very significant offer to convince them to sell, which never occurred.

A £30 million approach from West Ham was turned down, and despite rumours of interest from Newcastle and Bayern Munich, nothing better materialised.

The Peoples Person recently highlighted a Football Insider rumor that suggested the Red Devils could consider selling the 26-year-old in the winter window to fund other purchases.

According to fichajes.net, who cites the same source, United “wants to get rid of McTominay at all costs.”

According to them, “Manchester United are aware that they need to be creative in the January transfer window.”

It’s unclear from the report whether Fichajes has additional information to the initial FI complaint or whether they’re merely exaggerating the same scenario.

There is a significant distinction between “could decide to sell” and “wanting to get rid at any cost,” which is not supported by anything else in the article.

Furthermore, there would have to be a good replacement available in January to allow the star to leave without leaving United with few options.

Donny van de Beek is almost unquestionably ahead of McTominay in United’s exit line.

He has yet to play a minute this season and has not even been registered for the Champions League team.

A viral video of McTominay losing the ball against Bayern yesterday (available on X on accounts such as @mufcscoop, but unauthorised for publication here) and then making no effort to retrieve it suggests his heart and mind are not in the right place at the moment.

However, it is probably best not to take the fichajes report too seriously at this stage unless it is supported by additional sources.
