Arsenal player ratings vs PSV: Brilliant performances of Odegaard, Trossard and Saka; Harverzt still did not meet expectations

The pair appeared completely at ease as the Gunners dominated in their first major European match in seven years, winning 4-0.

On their return to the Champions League, Arsenal breezed through PSV, winning 4-0 at home on Wednesday. As Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Jesus all scored goals for the strong hosts before halftime, the Gunners had the game in hand.

For Mikel Arteta’s team, the front three were not the only ones to stand out. In the second half, Martin Odegaard scored a beautiful goal after forming an amazing connection with his teammates.

Declan Rice coordinated effectively from deep, and David Raya, who kept his spot in goal at Aaron Ramsdale’s expense, looked powerful.

Goalkeeper & Defence

David Raya (8/10):

under pressure after beating out Ramsdale for the job and demonstrating his merit. He was a solid presence in his box, made four saves, collected crosses, and displayed good distribution.

Ben White (7/10):

Lang was the most threatening player for PSV, but they did well to prevent him from getting risky balls in.

William Saliba (8/10):

Another relaxed performance to silence De Jong, who is always cool on the ball.

Gabriel Magalhaes (7/10):

made some powerful passes and presented himself well next to Saliba.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (7/10):

started out at left-back but switched to the center and other open spots as Arsenal approached the PSV box.

Midfield

Martin Odegaard (9/10):

A beautiful long-range goal was the result of a lot of hazardous passes and shots that were made while tidy on the ball in close quarters around PSV’s box.

Declan Rice (7/10):

Nothing eluded him. dropped far to seize control, direct Arsenal plays, and stop a few PSV attacks.

Kai Havertz (6/10):

He appeared capable of producing something in the second half and his passing was adequate.

Attack

Bukayo Saka (8/10):

passed to Odegaard, who then assisted Trossard in scoring the second goal by jumping on the rebound after the Norwegian’s effort was stopped.

Gabriel Jesus (7/10):

Early on, he didn’t have much room since PSV sat deep, but he pushed his way into the game and found himself in the ideal spot to score his team’s third goal.

Leandro Trossard (8/10):

had a lackluster start but found a fantastic pass in the area, shot a stunning goal moments later, and then found Jesus with a flawless cross to score the third.
