Liverpool still eyeing 25 y/o Serie A star as ‘key replacement’

Liverpool are interested in Federico Chiesa, according to Fichajes, and see him as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Serie A winger would be ideal in terms of skill and flair, but with his improved form, Juventus will fight tooth and nail to keep him.

Federico Chiesa divided opinion last season with some underwhelming performances for Juventus after returning from a serious injury. The previous season’s Juventus team lacked quality, but the 25-year-old Serie A standout got preoccupied with his own size.

For example, he was available for €40 million last summer, but clubs were hesitant to sign him due to his poor form. Liverpool had always liked him, but they didn’t need any more front-line players.

However, late in the window, Saudi Arabia’s increasing pressure on Mohamed Salah may have tripped them up. While they turned down a massive €150 million bid, Liverpool are already preparing for life without their Egyptian star in the event that he is sold in the future.

If Al Ittihad makes another massive offer in January or next summer, Liverpool may seriously contemplate selling their top player. While Salah has started the season strongly, they will think twice about the money on offer.

If Salah leaves, Chiesa might be one of the first candidates to take his place. After a strong upturn in form since the start of the current season, Juventus could ask for substantially more for the 25-year-old Serie A star than they did in the summer.

Chiesa has four goals in five games for the Bianconeri, including his goal against Sassuolo, putting him in the company of some of the league’s best performers. As a result, Liverpool will have a difficult time convincing Juventus to sell him at a decent price.

The Reds had the chance in the summer and might have taken advantage of a cheaper asking price. The following window or summer market, however, will make the 25-year-old Serie A star a costly signing, but he is one player who can adequately replace Salah.
