Sergio Reguilon discusses Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s expectations of him.
Erik ten Hag applauded Sergio Reguilon for fast integrating into Manchester United despite challenging circumstances, and the player has also taken steps to enhance his relationship with the manager.
Reguilon agreed to a season-long loan arrangement with United on the final day of the transfer window after being viewed as an urgent alternative to replace the opening at left-back in the closing days of the window.
Sergio Reguilon, according to club media (h/t Manchester Evening News), described to club media what Erik ten Hag expects of him during his loan term at Old Trafford:
“He wanted me to come, and I wanted to come.” It was all really simple. Now that I’m here, we’ve started talking about what he needs from his left-back in training. I believe we have the same philosophy. He values hard workers, and I value hard work; I believe we are on the same page.”
According to a confirmation from Ten Hag at the end of August, Luke Shaw would be out for several weeks with a muscular ailment, while Tyrell Malacia has yet to play this season.
Ten Hag is already weak on left backs, with Shaw and Aaron Wan Bissaka both out injured. Reguilon was brought in just to fill these spots. It’s amazing how quickly he’s adjusting to his new surroundings.
Although he had prior experience in this highly competitive league, we must all recognize how difficult it must have been for him to play for a new team and adjust to their tactics and style of play.
He will return to Tottenham Hotspur next year, but if he can do a good job here before then, Manchester United fans will have nothing but wonderful things to say about him.
