Liverpool predicted XI v Leicester: Trent Alexander-Arnold call made after return

Liverpool will be without two players for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup encounter against Leicester City, according to Pep Lijnders, who provided an update on the latest injury situation at his pre-match news conference.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was ‘excellent’ in training earlier this week after returning from injury, according to Lijnders, but the right-back will not play here. Meanwhile, Thiago is still recovering from his most recent setback.

The Carabao Cup will allow Liverpool to rotate its options, much like the first Europa League group game did, with Jürgen Klopp making 11 changes before the 3-1 triumph over LASK.

Even with sweeping changes to the starting lineup, Liverpool should be confident of defeating Leicester, who are presently top of the Championship after being demoted from the Premier League in May.

Liverpool last played Leicester in preseason at the end of July. Last season, the Reds won both games against the Foxes, winning 2-1 at Anfield and 3-0 at the King Power Stadium, with Wout Faes scoring two own goals.

The teams last met in the Carabao Cup in the quarter-finals just over two years ago. Takumi Minamino scored a last-second equalizer, but Liverpool triumphed on penalties. Diogo Jota had a great time that day, partying enthusiastically in front of the away end.
