Not Marcus Rashford, rookie Rasmus Hojlund or Anthony Martial, Casemiro is the one leading Man United’s scoring list this season.
Last season, Casemiro ‘s header helped Man United win their first title under Erik ten Hag’s reign. This season, it was still Casemiro whose header helped the Red Devils get off to a smooth start in their journey to defend the throne.
If anything has changed since Casemiro scored the opener against Newcastle at Wembley in February, it’s that his presence on the scoresheet has become increasingly regular.
Casemiro has sometimes struggled with defensive duties this season, not having good support from his teammates. However, his ability to participate in attacks and his ability to score goals have increased a lot. Few people expected a defensive midfielder like the Brazilian star to lead the Red Devils’ scoring list with 4 goals. He knew how to shine at the right time when Marcus Rashford started the season slowly and Rasmus Hojlund’s debut was delayed due to injury.
After scoring with a header from Mason Mount’s corner, Casemiro had the ball just right for Martial to score with one touch, beating Sam Johnstone. He absolutely deserved to be voted the Best Player in the match against Crystal Palace. Sofascored newspaper gave the former Real Madrid star a score of up to 8.9 – the highest in the match.
What Casemiro has done is commendable and shows his great influence on the Red Devils. With 90 minutes of play, Casemiro had 122 touches of the ball, launched 113 passes with an accuracy rate of up to 88%, and made 10/14 accurate long passes.
In the Red Devils shirt, Casemiro had 11 goals in 59 appearances. His scoring rate per match is almost twice as high as when he was at Real Madrid or with the Brazilian national team. However, it will be a problem if this season, Casemiro is still Man United’s top scorer.
It must also be admitted that Casemiro played better thanks to the support of Mason Mount and young talent Hannibal Mejbri. They are two mobile, enthusiastic and energetic number 8s. Their ability to defend from afar is outstanding. Mount also did very well in developing the ball. The former Chelsea midfielder played an important role in both of the Red Devils’ goals in the first half. He showed off his impressive passing ability with an angled pass in Garnacho’s opening goal. The English star was the owner of the corner from which Casemiro headed the ball to score. It was Mount’s first assist for Man United.
When Bruno Fernandes did not play, Mount replaced him perfectly and had the best match for the Red Devils. That is the midfielder that impressed Ten Hag and made Man United spend 60 million pounds to bring him to Old Trafford.
