Robert Lewandowski follows a reversed diet in which he consumes dessert before his main course.
Parents all throughout the world tell their children that they must finish their main dish before they can have their dessert or pudding.
However, Lewandowski, one of the best strikers in football history, is taking a different approach. Pep Guardiola, who managed the Poland international at Bayern Munich, called him “the most professional player” he’d ever worked with, saying he “thinks about the right food, sleep, and training 24 hours a day.”
In terms of food, Jonathan Liew wrote in The Guardian about Lewandowski’s unusual meal order and how it caused some consternation at Bayern.
However, there is a method to the chaos. His wife Anna, a former karate champion who specializes in health and nutrition, has advised Lewandowski to change his courses.
Because sweeter, sugarier foods are absorbed faster, re-ordering meals ensures they don’t combine with other food groups like proteins and carbohydrates.
This method can also be used to burn fat faster, which favors Lewandowski, who is shredded and in fantastic shape.
“He is a guy who is hungry to improve as a player, and for that reason, he has a special diet that his wife gives him,” ex-Poland teammate Thiago Cionek told ESPN.
“She is a well-known nutritionist in Poland.” Robert even told me that the main difference in his career, when he got to the elite clubs and the national team, was when he changed his diet drastically.
“He eats a lot of protein on game day.” There’s also tuna for breakfast. He also avoids anything containing gluten or lactose. He still finishes the day before playing, after dinner, with a dish of rice pudding to replenish the body with carbohydrates and glucose for the next day’s game. Then there are tons of vegetables and avocado in recovery.”
The 35-year-old is extremely superstitious and usually puts on his left boot first before a game after a conversation with a psychologist who advised him to do so.
He also only sleeps on his left side. A sleep therapist recommended this change to him, and he believes it will help him take care of his trusty right foot.
