Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has warned Alejandro Garnacho that the player is “not good enough” in his starts this season.
19-year-old Alejandro Garnacho has made six appearances this season and he scored the first goal in Man United’s 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace. Garnacho’s match against The Eagles marked the player’s third start, after being named in the starting lineup in the opening two Premier League matches and having to sit on the bench since then.
Now that Ten Hag has warned the 19-year-old striker that his performances earlier this season were not up to par, the 53-year-old coach also emphasized that Garnacho is simply not good enough.
The above move occurred in the context that the scandal between Jadon Sancho and Ten Hag is still “hot”. The Dutch coach publicly removed the England international from the squad, and Sancho responded by emphasizing that he was being considered a “scapegoat”.
Ten Hag said after the win against Palace: “You saw at the beginning of the season we played him and then his contribution was not good enough. But Garnacho also had some good performances. You always saw him as a threat in the match even when he wasn’t playing well.”
“Garnacho has to learn that when he works in defense, he has a chance with counter-attacks because he has great qualities.”
“Everyone likes Garnacho, the team likes him, me too but the whole team also has to demand and push Garnacho because he can play at a very high level but has to show it every day.”
