The Lakers are interested in Jrue Holiday, which is probably not unexpected news. Holiday, one of the best defensive guards in NBA history, was acquired in the Damian Lillard trade.
However, his time in Portland will be limited as the Blazers will attempt to reroute him in a deal. According to longtime NBA reporter Barry Jackson, the Lakers are one of the clubs interested in him.
The Lakers, as we have described in depth, will not be a consideration for Jrue for many months. The team does not have contracts to trade as a result of the extensions and contracts inked this summer.
Given how many clubs have already expressed interest, it appears unlikely that the Lakers will be able to participate in this transaction. They can only put together a reasonable offer by December 15, a deadline that other teams are aware of and will push to meet.
More than just putting one over on the Lakers, teams will want to get their new team together early in the season. According to the tweet, the Heat may be towards the top of that list in the hopes of mitigating some of the fallout from not acquiring Dame himself.
If this continues into the season, it will give the Lakers hope that the Blazers will be patient. But the Blazers are sure to receive a flood of proposals in the coming days as they try to close the trade before training camp, and the Lakers appear unlikely to land Holiday.
