Napoli has issued a statement in response to their contentious TikTok video involving Victor Osimhen.
This week, it was claimed that Osimhen could sue Napoli over a ‘unacceptable’ TikTok video.
“What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable,” Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, stated on Tuesday evening. A video insulting Victor was initially made public before being removed, albeit belatedly.
“A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news.”
Calenda went on to say: “We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor” .
According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli posted and quickly removed a video of Osimhen’s penalty miss against Bologna with a sped-up audio overlaid.
The Serie A club has now issued a comment on the matter.
“Calcio Napoli, in order to avoid any exploitation of the issue, would like to emphasize that we never intended to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club,” it said.
“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad.”
“Social media, particularly TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case of Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision,” the statement said.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended.”
Osimhen started and scored for Napoli in their 4-1 Serie A win over Udinese on Wednesday night.
