Teenage Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore made his start for Erik ten Hag’s team in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup game against Crystal Palace.
On his first game with the first team, Dan Gore played for Manchester United. The coaches at Old Trafford think the midfielder is ready for a great career at the highest level.
The tough midfielder was, along with Kobbie Mainoo, the heartbeat of the team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2021, and he has made a big mark in senior training. He had been on several matchday teams at the beginning of the season, but he had not played.
After getting into a fight with senior striker Anthony Martial last year, the teenager made a big mark at United’s training ground. The French striker got angry when the midfielder, who was moved up to United’s adult training during the World Cup last winter, made a hard tackle.
Gore’s challenge could have been seen as youthful exuberance, but Erik ten Hag and the coaching team had to step in to stop the fight. Despite how rough the tackle was, Martial was not hurt. Later, the French player told Gore he was sorry for how he acted.
Concerning the midfielder, the coaching staff told him to be less rough during practice. However, his aggression and physicality could definitely help United’s first team if used properly on the field.
Gore, who joined United’s youth team from Burnley in 2018, made his senior appearance as a substitute in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup game against Crystal Palace. It was a fitting way to celebrate his 19th birthday.
Gore wasn’t picked for Ten Hag’s team like Mainoo was in 2022–23, but his progress impressed the Dutch manager and United’s upper management, and he was named captain of a young Red Devils team that played Wrexham in a pre-season friendly.
Unfortunately, Gore was sent off for being too aggressive and got into a fight with Andy Cannon just a few minutes after halftime. However, many people think that the referee got the challenge wrong and that the young United star was actually the one who was hit.
The teenager had already won the club’s Reserve Player of the Year award last season, during which he showed more of his technical skill and desire to break through the lines to help his physicality and breaking up play.
Ten Hag has shown that he is ready to start United’s young stars, just like he did when he was in charge of Ajax. Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, who were both on the 2021 FA Youth Cup winning team, are now regulars in United’s senior squad.
The manager of United’s under-21 team, Mark Dempsey, told the Manchester Evening News in the past, “He [Gore] was really good.” He’s a good football player in my opinion. He’s good with and without the ball, and he can move with it. Finally, I think his last pass needs work; other than that, everything is great.
Dempsey went on, “I like watching him play football because he’s one of those players who gets people up and moving.” He hits people hard; technically, he’s great, and he’s been great all season. We’ve had him as captain more than once. He’s a quiet boy, but he’s a leader.
“He shows the way.” He’s from the area and loves the football club, which shows in the way he plays. We all really like Daniel, and it doesn’t matter if he’s playing at Old Trafford, a three-a-side game at Carrington, or The Cliff. He always does a great job.
