Liverpool can finally go down to work now that the international break is over.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds begin their Premier League campaign against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.
And, ahead of the game, the Liverpool manager has received a major boost in one of his important players’ confidence.
Darwin Nunez, the Reds’ forward, had a rough debut season at Anfield, but he’s picking up the pace this season.
There are still errors, like as the miss against Union Saint-Giloise, but overall, the Liverpool man is developing.
Nunez received arguably the biggest confidence boost an attacker could get this week, as his contributions helped Uruguay upset Brazil in World Cup qualification.
In the 42nd minute of the contest, the Liverpool star put the hosts ahead in Montevideo with a diving header.
In the 77th minute, Nicolas De la Cruz extended the hosts’ lead with a close-range strike assisted by Nunez.
‘He was there when Klopp needed the most.’
Prior to the game, Uruguay head coach Marcelo Bielsa favored the Liverpool player above the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
However, it paid off, and Nunez will no sure be pumped up for the encounter against the Toffees.
“Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa’s decision not to call up Luis Suarez for the start of the qualifiers drew criticism,” ESPN Uruguay expert Jorge Senorans stated.
“The wager was risky.” The coach was banking on a new striker, Darwin Nunez.
“The Ariguense, far from being intimidated by the wave of responsibility, took on the role with an attitude that is not for everyone: he requested the number nine shirt…
“Darwin, leaving aside the controversies and football opinions, once again said he was present when he was needed most.”
When big-money newcomers join a club like Liverpool, there’s always a lot of pressure on them to hit the ground running and perform straight away.
However, it can take some time. Klopp has been patient with Nunez and has never lost faith in him.
Things are already improving, and maybe this is only the beginning for the ‘unbelievable’ potential.
