Calum Scanlon, a Liverpool youth player, has been observed in first-team training ahead of tonight’s Europa League match against Toulouse.
The club has posted some behind-the-scenes photos of the group as they strive to keep their perfect record in the league.
After victories over LASK and Union Saint-Gilloise, the Reds will almost certainly go to the knockout stages if they win tonight.
However, Jurgen Klopp will have to make a significant decision in defense this evening.
The German said that defender Andy Robertson underwent surgery after suffering a shoulder injury while on international duty.
Kostas Tsimikas filled in against Everton at the weekend, but Klopp has confessed that he won’t be able to play every game in the Scot’s absence.
Liverpool will have to look to the academy for prospective replacements, and have summoned up Calum Scanlon to training to get a better look at the 18-year-old.
The’superb’ left-sided player is capable of playing at left-back or further up the field.
He’s up against Luke Chambers for a starting spot tonight, who has been practicing against Mohamed Salah to polish his craft.
Scanlon was observed training in Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s team will be hoping for an easy win today to take the burden off their next three European games.
With their schedule due to pick up following the international break, he’ll want to take advantage of Liverpool’s midweek matchups to rest his key players.
Trey Nyoni, another youngster, was also called up before of this match, indicating that Klopp is already thinking about rotating his roster.
At the moment, Chambers appears to be the more likely player to rest Tsimikas in the coming weeks.
He made his senior debut earlier this summer in the Carabao Cup, coming on as a late substitution against Leicester City.
Scanlon’s call-up to Liverpool training by Klopp will keep the pressure on the 19-year-old, who presents a more attacking alternative than his fellow academy graduate.
The German also has other senior team members who might give Tsimikas a rest if necessary.
Joe Gomez is versatile enough to play on the left, and Luis Diaz even came on for a few minutes against Everton to play more defensively.
