Andy Cole: ‘Playing with Man United flop Antony would drive me absolutely mad’

Andy Cole, a former Manchester United striker, stated he would have been “driven insane” if he had played with Antony, questioning the Brazilian’s value to the club’s assault.

Antony has been chastised for a string of poor performances after joining the Red Devils for £85.5 million from Ajax in 2022.

In his nine appearances, the Brazil international has failed to score or assist.Antony was given another chance to shine after being granted a start against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup. 

Cole, who scored 121 goals in 275 games for Manchester United, stated that Antony’s style of play would have disappointed him as a centre forward.

‘He would drive me absolutely mad,’ Cole told Sky Sports.

‘He is an individual, we all know he is really left footed and will not go to the right hand side. So if you are a centre forward making a run to the near post, you know you will never get it. 

‘I look at things like that, he doesn’t score enough goals for me or create enough chances for his team-mates. 

‘You look at him and think what are you giving.

‘They spent a hell of a lot of money on him and the manager has backed him. He has found it really tough.’

Man United’s goal drought this season has been highlighted, with the Red Devils scoring just 11 goals in 10 Premier League games.

Cole suggested that the team’s inability to create chances has irritated summertime addition Fredrik Hojlund.

He believes that the more he plays with Antony, the more the Danish attacker would demand a different style from him.

‘I would have looked at Man United and thought am I going to win things,’ Cole said.

‘When you are playing for a team that doesn’t create a lot of chances as a forward, you would scratch your head thinking when is the next chance going to come from. 

‘Within time if Hojlund keeps playing with Antony he’ll let him know “is there any chance, I’m making good runs.’ for the club this season.

A focus has been placed on Man United’s lack of goals this season, with the Red Devils netting just 11 in their 10 Premier League matches.

Cole claimed the lack of chances created by the team will have frustrated summer signing Rasmus Hojlund.

He suggested the Danish striker will soon demand a different style from Antony the more he plays with the Brazilian.

‘I would have looked at Man United and thought am I going to win things,’ Cole said.
