But, speaking on Sky Sports Premier League last night, former Liverpool striker Sturridge stated that, while the 24-year-old’s finishing may be better, he’s still a ‘defender’s nightmare.’

When asked if Nunez symbolizes the ‘future’ of Liverpool, Sturridge was unequivocal.

“Absolutely,” the 34-year-old said. “I believe he adds excitement and aggression to the attack.” He’s a thrilling talent to watch and a defender’s worst nightmare.

“Of course, he needs to work on his finishing, but that will come with time.” But because of the type of player he is, he will get a lot of opportunities in games.”

Darwin’s verdict is provided by Sturridge

If you haven’t seen Sturridge’s comprehensive analysis on Nunez, it’s highly worth watching this morning.

The former Liverpool striker provided an intriguing glimpse into the Uruguayan’s style of play and what he can do to improve his finishing.

In fact, after hearing Sturridge’s evaluation, perhaps Jurgen Klopp should call the former England striker.

Liverpool could do a lot worse than bring Daniel in to offer Darwin some advice.

Despite the fact that injuries ended his Anfield career, Sturridge was one of the most effective frontmen Liverpool has ever had.

Nunez could learn a lot from the Reds’ Champions League winner, who is quick, tall, strong, and vicious in front of goal.

Nonetheless, Darwin should not be taken too seriously. We all know he’s a work in progress, which is part of why we all adore him.

Sunday wasn’t his best day at work, but we’d be surprised if he doesn’t follow it up with a goal in his next Reds game. You won’t be able to keep Liverpool’s No.9 down for long.
