Didier Deschamps, France’s manager, has announced that Liverpool player Ibrahima Konate has a hamstring problem.
The Reds defender has been picked to France’s squad for upcoming games against Gibraltar and Greece. However, due to an injury, he was forced to withdraw and was replaced by Chelsea’s Axel Disasi. Deschamps has now spoken out on the severity of Liverpool star Konate’s injury.
The manager of France has confirmed that Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate has a hamstring issue.
Ibrahima Konate is an important player for both Liverpool and France, and neither Jurgen Klopp nor Didier Deschamps want to see him injured.
Unfortunately for all parties concerned, Konate appears to have injured his hamstring in the same spot where he had issues earlier this season.
France would have like to have him available, but Konate’s injury has forced him to withdraw, and he will now spend the next two weeks in Liverpool under the care of the club’s specialists.
Deschamps has verified that Konate’s injury is not significant, and that he simply did not want to risk calling him up.
“He felt something in his hamstring,” France’s manager told RMC Sport.
“He had tests, but nothing serious came back.” He requires some time to avoid taking any risks. He already has an injury in this area. It wasn’t in his or my best interests to call him. In the best-case scenario, he could have simply trained on Friday or Saturday.”
Konate should be available for Liverpool’s next match
Hamstring problems are notoriously difficult to deal with, but Deschamps’ remarks should be music to the ears of Liverpool fans.
The France coach said that Konate will be back in training this weekend in the best-case scenario. If that happens, he should be ready for Manchester City’s huge game soon after the international break.
Klopp will no doubt be relieved that Deschamps has permitted Konate to remain in England so that Liverpool’s medical staff can prepare him for the journey to the Etihad.
Liverpool have a far better chance of upsetting the champions if Konate is fit enough to start.
