Scott McTominay of Scotland called Georgia a “disgrace” after their 2-2 tie in Euro 2024 qualifying.
The Manchester United midfielder netted his eighth goal of the qualification campaign in Tbilisi, but he was disappointed by the hosts’ disrespect for the referee.
A disorganized game featured 32 fouls and six yellow cards, as well as a confrontation between both sets of players in each half.
After the victory, McTominay, 26, told Viaplay, “Every game at this level is big, and obviously they have some really, really good footballers.”
“But tonight, I thought their behavior was disgraceful in terms of provoking the referee as well.”
“Anyway, that’s football, and that’s how it goes sometimes.” We must keep our cool, but it is difficult.
“There are some disappointed players in the locker room, but I believe it’s something we can build on after coming back twice.”
“They should take action against people who pretend to be injured when they are not.”
“It’s a tough call, but rolling around and crying like babies all afternoon is not football.”
“We just wanted to get on with the game and play our best.” Whereas the opposing team was constantly provoking the referee.”
The Tartan Army, who have already qualified for Euro 2024, appeared to be heading for a stunning defeat after goals from Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia each side of McTominay’s goal.
Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland scored in stoppage time to save a point for Steve Clarke’s side in their final game of the season.
Given the game’s stoppages, manager Clarke was overjoyed to see Scotland take advantage of the eight minutes added on.
“That’s one of the challenges when you come here, you know they’ll do everything they can to get a positive result,” the 60-year-old added.
“You must respond to that.” We must exercise self-control and refrain from becoming involved in or encouraging any form of pranks.
“We just kept going, kept plugging away, we knew there was going to be extra time because now they have a better handle on time wasted, and it was nice to score in injury time.”
