‘New Divock Origi’: Jürgen Klopp should rescue Liverpool fan in wildcard January transfer

A forward may not be Liverpool’s top priority in the January transfer window, but the club has always stated that if the perfect opportunity presents itself, it will not pass it up.

Liverpool’s starting XI is well-stocked, but a pair of injuries to Jürgen Klopp might transform the scenario in the front three. When Liverpool was vying for the quadruple a few seasons ago, in addition to a solid starting XI, Klopp had guys like Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino who could step up when needed and function as trump cards to pull him out of difficulty.

Liverpool might seek one player who may be looking forward to a change of scenery, particularly at Anfield. Leicester City forward Patson Daka is a lifelong Liverpool supporter who described playing at Anfield as a ‘dream’ come true on the club’s official website in 2019.

“When I was a kid, in my family we had a kind of competition that everybody has to support a famous football team,” Daka said in an interview with Liverpoolfc.com. “My father was a Chelsea fan, and my sister was an Arsenal fan, so I chose Liverpool.”

“One of the first truly memorable moments came in 2005, when Liverpool defeated AC Milan in the Champions League final.” Famous players I recall playing here include Fernando Torres and Luis Suárez.

“With my first step on the grass of Anfield, a dream will come true,” he went on to say. “I have seen so many matches on TV and I have heard so many stories about it.”

Daka began his career with Red Bull Salzburg before moving to Leicester City, where he had a great debut despite playing a minor role. Daka averaged 0.61 goal contributions per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season, despite Leicester City’s relegation.

He is a forward with a terrific eye for goal and is currently in excellent form. Despite playing in exile for Leicester City, Daka scored seven goals in his previous six games for Zambia as the country prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations.

With that competition taking place in January, it will be an opportunity for Daka to reclaim the spotlight, as well as an opportunity for Leicester to offload a player who is no longer a key figure at the club.

Daka has only appeared in two games for Leicester this season, one of which was in the Championship. Daka is clearly a good player with a track record of playing and scoring goals in the Premier League and the Champions League. Given his current circumstances at Leicester, he could possibly be available for a reasonably inexpensive fee.

This might pave the way for Liverpool to make a move for the Zambian international and bring him in on the cheap. Depending on Leicester’s demands, this might be a wise move by Liverpool, which could result in the discovery of Klopp’s next Origi at Anfield.
