Norway says Erling Haaland’s injury is not serious ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League match against Liverpool on November 25, live on Sky Sports; the striker was injured against the Faroe Islands on Thursday. Man City’s injury woes worsen ahead of a crucial match against championship rivals.
Erling Haaland has been ruled out of Norway’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Scotland on Sunday owing to an ankle injury.
Norway stated that the striker is unable to play against Scotland because “he is in so much pain” and his function is “somewhat restricted,” yet manager Stale Solbakken claims it is “not serious.”
Haaland, who will play against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, November 25, suffered the injury against the Faroe Islands on Thursday.
“It’s the movement in his foot that’s the problem, but it’s not a serious injury,” Solbakken said on Saturday at Hampden Park. “I don’t know if he would have been fit to play if it had been a final.”
“All parties agree it is probably a little too early (for him to play) but it is not a career-threatening injury.”
Haaland suffered the injury as a second-half substitution in Thursday’s friendly. Solbakken explained why the striker was chosen in such a low-key encounter, saying, “It was his choice.” He wanted to play 45 minutes to keep the momentum going in a week where we might not have trained as much. It was his choice.”
Scotland has already qualified for Euro 2024, but they are still competing for first place with Spain, who is two points ahead with one game remaining.
Norway cannot reach its opponents on Sunday, but they must win points to prevent Georgia from passing them in third place on the final qualifying matchday in Group A.
