Cristiano Ronaldo of Al-Nassr added another feather to his crown after winning the Saudi Pro League Player of the Month title for December.
Ronaldo, 38, is largely regarded as the greatest player to ever play the beautiful game, and he is still going strong. In his first full season in the Saudi top division, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been on a tear.
Ronaldo has 20 goals and nine assists in 18 league games, giving him the league lead. This includes five goals and two assists in five games in December, with the Portugal captain scoring in all but the 3-0 loss to Al-Hilal at the start of the month.
Unsurprisingly, he was named December’s Saudi Pro League player of the month. As translated from Arabic, the SPL tweeted:
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in December for rounds (16, 17, 18, 19) and wins the Roshnksa.”
Al-Nassr is only seven points behind Al-Hilal (53) after 19 games, thanks to their captain’s leadership. Ronaldo has been so dominant in the SPL this season that, aside from the Al-Hilal game, he hasn’t scored in only two previous games: a 2-0 loss at Al-Taawoun in August and a 2-2 tie at Abha in October.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a fantastic goal-filled year for both club and country.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner finished 2023 with 54 goals in 59 games for club and country, two more than any other player. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe finished with 52 goals each, two more than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
Ronaldo posted the number 54 and highlighted that he’s far from ‘done’ as he congratulated his teammates in a poorly veiled dig at critics who had labeled him as finished:
