Trent Alexander-Arnold’s poignant tribute to Liverpool supporters, the “Anfield mural,” has quickly caught the attention of people. The striking self-portrait, painted on a row house near Anfield, has garnered media coverage and today Trent, along with his older brother Tyler, had the opportunity to see it in person.
Located at the intersection of Sybil Street and Anfield Road, the three-story mural depicts the Liverpool right-back. The artwork was organized by The Anfield Wrap, a Liverpool FC fan podcast, as a way to support young people and pay homage to an amazing season. Trent believes that the mural holds a significant message, particularly for the youth in the community.
Speaking to the ECHO during the mural’s official unveiling, Trent shared his perspective: “The main message that kids should be picking up from me and my story is that anything is possible and anything can happen – because I was once that kid in a Gerrard or Carragher shirt.” He credited local team members for inspiring him, showing that dreams can come true even for ordinary boys from Liverpool.
The artwork has attracted a younger audience, with children wearing Trent’s shirts visiting the street daily to snap photos. The mural, created by French graffiti artist Akse, who also painted the Klopp mural in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, was made possible by MGS Estates, who allowed their building to be transformed.
Initially thinking it was a prank, Trent was awestruck when he saw the enormous mural up close, saying, “It’s something you always dream about, but you never realize that this could happen.” He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the mural a reality, emphasizing that it is something to be truly proud of.
The mural not only showcases Trent’s journey but also raises awareness for the local charity Fans Supporting Foodbanks, which is featured in the artwork. Trent hopes that the mural’s presence will inspire more support for the charity’s work in the community.
The Anfield mural serves as a reminder of the positive impact football and the community can have, and Trent’s message resonates with the youth, encouraging them to believe in their dreams and strive for greatness.
