Ten Hag ready to welcome ‘World Cup champion’ to push away McTominay

Manchester United is considering a summer move for World Cup champion Alexis MacAllister as Erik ten Hag continues his reconstruction.

According to Argentine writer Cesar Luis Merlo, United is competing with Liverpool and Arsenal to sign the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder during the summer transfer window.

Merlo states that two clubs are ‘already negotiating’ with the player, although he does not specify which clubs.

The south coast club was asking for £50m for any team to entice Mac Allister away from the club during the January window, and this amount may have climbed by the conclusion of the season. Ten Hag is still a few additions away from establishing a roster capable of competing for the Premier League crown, and Mac Allister would undoubtedly help the club.

With the Dutchman eager to get rid of deadwood and underperformers during the summer, Argentina might be a significant improvement over Scott McTominay.

Furthermore, the 24-year-old has more goals (eight to none), shots per game (2.35 to 0.78), tackles won (30 to 18), and pass success rate (86.7% to 81.9%) than the Scot this season, demonstrating he has been much more productive across the board.

Ten Hag would love to add another goal t/h/r/e/a/t in midfield, and Mac Allister ranks in the top 5% of Europe’s big five leagues for goals, total shots, and penalty kicks made, implying that if United were to entice him to the club, they would be signing one of the continent’s best goalscoring midfielders.

His high-level expertise is certainly a significant benefit for the Dutchman. Writer Roy Nemer praised the midfielder as “unplayable” during Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory, and he was excellent throughout the campaign. He averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.05/10 throughout six games, scoring once, generating two huge chances, making 1.3 important passes per game, and taking 1.2 shots each game, demonstrating his o/f/f/e/n/s/i/v/e abilities on the biggest stage of all.

McTominay has started only nine Premier League games for United this season, totaling 20 appearances, and it seems like his time with the Red Devils is coming to an end.

Mac Allister will be a significant improvement on the 26-year-old and will help to bolster United’s midfield.

The Napoli striker has recently been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford

Marcus Rashford became the match-winner again for Manchester United’s latest victory at home to Brentford, giving the Englishman 28 goals in all competitions this season – 18 more than any other United player.

The 25-year-incredible old’s h/o/t run may have helped to disguise the goalscoring shortcomings of those surrounding him, with the center-forward combo of Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial, for example, scoring only eight goals this season across all fronts.

That mediocre performance is just not good enough for a team that is expected to have championship aspirations next season, as shown by recent claims that the Old Trafford club is considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur star, Harry Kane, or Napoli wonder, Victor Osimhen.

For those leaning towards the latter, who may cost as much as €150 million (£132 million), the 24-year-old would offer a possible long-term fit owing to his age, operating as an o/f/f/e/n/s/i/v/e leader around whom Erik ten Hag could construct his team for years to come.

Having said that, the acquisition of the Nigerian would be fraught with d/a/n/g/e/r, with the Red Devils unable to afford another expensive blunder in the transfer market.

After his recent comeback from injury, the aforementioned Martial made yet another cameo appearance off the bench in the recent victory against the Bees, with the 27-year-old still not ready to contribute from the start despite having been welcomed back into training a few weeks ago.

Ten Hag’s patience seems to be running thin amid suggestions that the former Monaco star might be part of a squad clearout this summer, as the Frenchman’s physical troubles have been a persistent cause of irritation this season, limiting him to only 16 appearances in all competitions.

Although Osimhen has been in blistering form this season, scoring 21 Serie A goals for Luciano Spalletti’s side, the highly-coveted t/h/r/e/a/t is also prone to injury, having spent time on the treatment table many times during his time in Naples.

According to Transfermarkt, the former Lille machine has been out for 209 days due to a variety of fitness and injury issues since the start of the 2020/21 season, totaling around 46 games in which he has been unavailable for selection, whereas Kane has missed just five games at club level in that time.

According to The Athletic’s James Horncastle on the latest Totally Football Show podcast, there is a notion in Italy that the 6 foot 1 marksman is rather “brittle,” with United’s right to be wary of spending big money on a player who may turn out to be untrustworthy.

Of course, injuries are unavoidable, but Osimhen’s previous track record should set warning bells screaming at the Theatre of Dreams, especially with United a/n/x/i/o/u/s to avoid signing another Martial.
