Thiago’s son scored a fantastic goal for Inter Miami in the Weston Cup final, assisted by Lionel Messi.
As Lionel Messi prepared for his MLS debut against Inter Miami on Monday, he witnessed a special final. Thiago, one of La Pulga’s three sons, participated in the Weston Cup youth tournament and scored a fantastic goal in the U12 age category.
The video of this goal instantly went viral. The 11-year-old child took a high pass from the left side and volleyed it into the far corner of the net, leaving the opponent’s defenders and goalkeeper helpless. Messi celebrated the goal from the stands, where he regularly sits with his family, friend, and teammate Luis Suarez.
Thiago Messi has been a member of the Inter Miami Academy since he moved to America after leaving PSG. Antonela Roccuzzo, the couple’s eldest son, was featured on the club’s official Instagram account alongside all of his U12 teammates.
A month earlier, the Daily Mail stated that Messi’s two surviving sons had joined Inter Miami, but Ciro and his brother Mateo had yet to appear in club uniforms.
Thiago practices alongside his father at the Florida Blue Training Center, which also houses Inter Miami’s first squad. This U12 team competes in the Florida Academy League, as opposed to the U13, U14, U15, U16, and U17 teams who compete in MLS Next.
Before departing Spain, Messi allowed Thiago to participate in one of the Barca Escola project’s categories designed exclusively for children aged 6 to 8, looking for training methods comparable to those used at La Masia.
