Real Madrid made some big moves during the summer transfer window.
Los Blancos spent a lot of money to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, and they also added a young superstar in Arda Guler and Joselu to their frontline.
However, prior to any of these transactions, the Spanish club came close to signing one of the Premier League’s most prominent players.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, Real Madrid attempted to recruit Darwin Nunez from Liverpool before moving on to players such as Bellingham and Joselu.

Real Madrid attempted to sign Darwin Nunez Romano offered his knowledge regarding the £70 million man.
“But on Darwin. Last summer, in June, Real Madrid mulled a move for Darwin Nunez. This is a story from early June, when Real Madrid made calls to better grasp Darwin Nunez’s predicament. They attempted to pursue this deal, which was discussed both on the player and club sides with Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board decided to keep the player. Before signing Bellingham and Joselu, Real Madrid considered a bid for Darwin Nunez last summer,” Romano stated.
It’s odd that Real Madrid considered signing Nunez this summer, as his stock wasn’t exactly at its peak.
If we’re being cruel, Nunez’s debut season at Liverpool was not particularly impressive, as he struggled for form and goals.
However, Madrid, like many Liverpool fans, definitely saw something in the player, but Liverpool were understandably reluctant to sell.
Nunez would have been interesting to watch on this Madrid team alongside Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, but to be honest, we’re delighted he’s stayed in the Premier League since he’s one of the most entertaining footballers out there right now.
