Kevin Durant earned the league MVP award in 2013-14 and has four scoring titles before joining Golden State last season. But one item was still missing from his resume: an NBA championship.
Durant did this in his first year with the Warriors, and the 2017 Finals MVP received his first championship ring on opening night this season.
The 29-year-old recently shared the moment he received his bling on YouTube, offering fans an insight into how the day went.
The video opens with Durant responding to seeing Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward dislocate his ankle against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the game before the Warriors met the Houston Rockets in a doubleheader.
“It just sucks to see you, man. So we’re all praying for him, and we’ve got his back,” Durant explained. “This is a fraternity, and when stuff like that happens we gotta try to rally around each other.”
There was also a touching moment when Durant’s mother, Wanda, had the opportunity to try on the 11-carat championship ring herself. She continued, choking back tears, “Wow. “He did it.”
Durant, now in his 11th season, hopes to win a second consecutive championship with this incredibly talented Warriors team.
