Liverpool extend their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 99th minute winner from Darwin Núñez!!!

DARWIN NUNEZ scored a spectacular goal deep into stoppage time to cap Liverpool’s fantastic week.

Second-half substitute Nunez headed in Alexis MacAllister’s cross, sending the visiting fans into a frenzy and sparking heated scenes after the game.

Darwin Nunez scored a 99th-minute winner to keep Liverpool on top of the standings. The Reds were heading for a draw to harm their title bid but Nunez pounced at the end.

The home bench and players, still enraged by Paul Tierney’s ruling minutes earlier, surrounded the referee as Forest fans sang “Cheat”.

Steven Reid, the first-team coach, was sent off, and owner Evangelos Marinakis was on the verge of taking the pitch.

However, once the dust had settled, Carabao Cup winners Liverpool had stolen victory and a vital three points in the title battle.

The Reds’ first Premier League victory at the City Ground in 40 years couldn’t have been more spectacular.

There had already been numerous chances at both ends in the time added on at the end of a competitive 90 minutes.

Forest were so close to a breakthrough in their battle at the opposite end of the table.

It could have been three if Anthony Elanga had taken one of his superb chances.

Despite their tenacious defence, they gave up in the last seconds.

The first half was competitive, but not particularly high quality.

Forest’s first great chance came in the 23rd minute. Former Liverpool hero Divock Origi, who had already gone near with a long-range effort, found Anthony Elanga with a through pass, exposing the visitors’ high line.

However, Caoimhin Kelleher stepped in and saved Elanga’s shot with his left leg.

At the opposite end, Liverpool’s most likely players were Bobby Clark and Luis Diaz. When Clark’s original shot was blocked by Andrew Omobamidele, the ball dropped to Diaz at close range, but Murillo made an outstanding save.

Diaz was set open on the right side of the penalty area a few minutes later, but his shot sailed wide of the goal. May be an image of 7 people, people playing soccer, people playing football and text

Cody Gakpo, the enigma, elected to head a wonderful clipped ball from Alexis MacAllister back across goal for reasons only he knows.

Liverpool began the second half with greater menace. An Andy Robertson cross found Clark, who attempted to help the ball forward but was diverted away.

When the ball fell to Robertson in the area moments later, a goal appeared likely, but he didn’t catch it well enough, and Omobamidele made another excellent save.

With half an hour remaining, Klopp brought on Wataru Endo and Darwin Nunez in pursuit of a key breakthrough.

Nunez struck the side netting from a tight angle, but the next opportunity came from the opposite end.

Taiwo Awoniyi, another former Liverpool striker, replaced Origi and passed the ball back to Harry Toffolo.

His cross found Elanga at the back post, but the former Manchester United winger missed the target, shooting the ball back across Kelleher’s goal and wide.Có thể là hình ảnh về 4 người, mọi người đang chơi bóng bầu dục, mọi người đang chơi bóng đá và văn bản

As the rain fell, Nunez pushed forward and found Gakpo, only for the Dutchman to shoot into the side netting.

Diaz was the next offender, playing a good one-two with Mac Allister but missing his shot wide.

Jayden Danns, a midweek FA Cup hero, was brought on with six minutes remaining, and the desperation was clear.

He first claimed a penalty after being restrained by Danilo at a corner, and then he received a yellow card for a wild jump into Forest custodian Matz Sels.

The event resulted in further stoppage time. Nunez couldn’t get enough of a Kostas Tsimikas cross, and Awoniyi saw his effort deflected over the bar.

Then Sels made an outstanding save when his own defender, Murillo, fired a Tsimikas corner kick goalwards.

Forest’s rage began when Ibrahim Konate collapsed with an apparent head injury, only to recover shortly.

Tierney elected to restart the game by dropping a ball at Kelleher’s feet.

As the clock passed eight minutes, Nunez delivered the final sting in the tail.
