Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, acknowledged that “good” discussions about the club’s plans for the upcoming summer transfer window—which is expected to bring in three signings—took place over the international break.
In their quest to finish inside the top four, the Reds have a challenging finish to the season, beginning with a crucial meeting against rivals Manchester City today.
What Liverpool does in the summer transfer window will likely be more significant than how they do this season. Jude Bellingham, the England international, is the Reds’ primary priority in the midfield, and reports continue to link him with a move to Anfield.
Liverpool will unlikely finish with just one midfield signing though with Mason Mount also seen as a potential target, depending on his discussions with Chelsea on a new contract. And it’s also been suggested that Liverpool could look to raid Chelsea for a second talent with plans to bring in a young centre-back.
Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount are being linked to Liverpool
Levi Colwill is tipped as someone on Liverpool’s radar and the Reds are monitoring his situation. Klopp has long had a say in the transfer business Liverpool conduct with the recruitment team often liaising with the German coach on who the club plan on targeting.
And the 55-year-old has admitted that the international break was used as a prime opportunity to hold further talks on the kind of business they hope to do in the summer. Klopp even let slip how felt discussions had gone, admitting they were “positive” while letting out a wry smile.
“That’s actually the only thing that we do in the international break, apart from having a few days off,” Klopp said when asked whether summer transfer plans were discussed in the international break. “I don’t plan training sessions because I don’t know who is coming back, how and when.”
Klopp added: “On the player side, I’m positive I would say. But it’s talks. It’s not decisions, it’s talks. But we are busy, you can imagine.”
Jurgen Klopp was in high spirits at his press conference
Klopp was questioned about if Julian Ward’s replacement had been brought up, but he chose not to respond. It appears that nothing has been settled, and there is still plenty of time for things to change, including the availability of new players and the acquisition of initial targets by other teams.
Nonetheless, Klopp is obviously pleased with Liverpool’s present preparations for what may turn out to be a pivotal summer window at Anfield.
Liverpool lead, in advanced talks to sign £50m star
Mason Mount will be out of contract in 2024 and the talented English star is a wanted player in the market.
According to numerous media sources, Liverpool is in the lead in the competition to capture the versatile player from Chelsea in the summer.
According to yesterday’s report from The Athletic, the 24-year-old talent is also being scouted by Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs, and Newcastle, but the Merseysiders are in the greatest position to land his services.
Even German champion Bayern Munich may be interested in Thomas Tuchel’s hire. Under the German manager, the Three Lions star primarily made an impact at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool and Mount are reportedly in in advanced negotiations, according to the news source. A transfer has been seriously considered, and the Reds could provide a tempting contract to seal the deal.
The Athletic claim Chelsea look to get around £70m. The asking price should be considered unrealistic keeping in view the player will be free to leave next year.
The two-time European champions might make £50m from the sale of their prized possession, according to today’s edition of The Guardian (news image below).
According to a British media site, Liverpool are considered the frontrunner to sign the player while Manchester United are keeping an eye on his status.
In the upcoming transfer window, Jurgen Klopp’s team needs to strengthen its roster, and it is said that Mason Mount has a decent possibility of joining the Anfield club.
