Liverpool have been given a new injury concern when Andy Robertson was pulled off injured while playing for Scotland.
Robertson captained the Scots in a friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night, but his evening did not go as expected. He seemed to damage his left ankle in a collision with Sunderland full-back Trai Hume in the 30th minute and was visibly in discomfort.
He attempted to stay on the pitch and witnessed his Liverpool teammate Conor Bradley put Northern Ireland ahead with a deflected shot. However, Robertson went down again minutes later and appeared distressed as he sat on the pitch.
The 30-year-old left-back was examined by Scotland’s medical personnel and had to be carried off the pitch in the 37th minute. As he walked, he buried his face in his hands and pulled up his shirt. It was a really scary moment for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who can’t afford any more injuries in the Premier League title battle.

“He has just come off the pitch. Let the injury run its course. “He’ll return to his club, and they’ll evaluate him,” Scotland boss Steve Clarke said after the match. “Hopefully it’s not too serious.” Liverpool presently has nine injured players, including Joel Matip, Alisson Becker, Stefan Bajcetic, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate, Thiago Alcantara, and Darwin Nunez.
Robertson has only played 20 matches for Liverpool this season owing to a shoulder injury that sidelined him from October to January. He has recently been shielded, with Klopp deploying Joe Gomez at left-back to ease Robertson back into action, only for an injury to strike while on international duty.
Liverpool face Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday, seeking to take advantage of whatever happens when Manchester City hosts Arsenal. With 10 games remaining, the Reds are second in the league, trailing only Arsenal on goal difference.

Robertson’s injury came only days after he urged for higher standards for Scotland ahead of Euro 2024. The Netherlands hammered Steve Clarke’s team 4-0 over the weekend, prompting an emotional diatribe from Robertson.
“Anger and disappointment.” You can’t come away from these huge clubs and perform like we did. We can take a lot of heart from 60-70 minutes, but coming away with a 4-0 victory is incredible,” he told Viaplay.
“That cannot happen. We need to look into it. We can’t keep doing things the same way we always do against the big clubs. We’ve shipped a lot of goals in the last few games, which isn’t what we’re built around. We are predicated on clean bedding. We conceded one goal in our first five qualifiers, which is why we have a summer ahead of us, and we need to get back on track quickly. “You can’t play like that and concede four goals.”
