Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has revealed details about his strong friendship with NBA star LeBron James, stating that he routinely seeks career counsel from the basketball icon. Mbappe and James have known each other since 2018 when they met at a Nike event in New York.
Since then, the two athletes’ friendship has grown, with Mbappe expressing admiration for James, who, in addition to his basketball career, is an investor in Fenway Sports Group, which owns Liverpool FC.
Mbappe’s statement has fuelled discussion about a possible move to Liverpool, but PSG is actively pursuing a contract renewal with an offer worth £86.15 million per season.
Mbappe is a famous figure in French football, captaining the national team and leading the line for PSG. Despite losing Neymar and Lionel Messi, the club has kept Mbappe’s services. Mbappe and James, who are linked by their affiliation with Nike, have mutual respect, and Mbappe highlights James’ importance in his career decisions.
“He has a much more advanced career than I do, and projects outside of sport that have cemented his place as a legend,” Mbappe told GQ Magazine. “Being able to seek advice from such inspiring personalities allows me to shape my projects effectively for today’s young people.”
