Liverpool’s young centre-back, Jarell Quansah, has received high praise from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards on The Rest is Football podcast. They described him as an “outstanding” player alongside Conor Bradley at Anfield. Quansah has had a breakthrough season, stepping up in the absence of injured and suspended key players.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that his squad will be fully fit for the crucial stages of the season, as Liverpool continues to chase success in the Premier League and Europa League. Quansah is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming weeks.
At the beginning of the 2023/24 season, Quansah may not have anticipated his breakthrough at Liverpool. The 21-year-old had a loan spell at League One club Bristol Rovers in the previous season, gaining valuable experience in professional football.
Quansah returned to Liverpool for pre-season but wasn’t featured in the matchday squad for the opening Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth. However, he made his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 win against Newcastle United in August. He followed that up with another appearance against Aston Villa the following week. On September 16, 2023, Quansah made his first start for Liverpool in a 3-1 Premier League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Since then, he has made 23 more appearances in all competitions, including a start in the recent 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.
When asked about Quansah’s potential inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for EURO 2024, Shearer and Richards praised his talent but suggested that it might be too early for him at the moment. Shearer highlighted his growth during the Brighton game and emphasized his immense potential. Both pundits acknowledged Quansah’s outstanding performances, particularly in the game against Manchester City, where he showcased his maturity. However, they believe it might be premature for him to be called up by the national team.
Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures include important matches in both the Premier League and the Europa League. They will first face the bottom-placed Sheffield United at home on Thursday, aiming to maintain their position at the top of the league. Following that, they have a highly anticipated clаsh against Manchester United, seeking reve𝚗ge for their recent FA Cup quarter-final loss.
During this busy period, Jarell Quansah will be looking to accumulate more playing time. Liverpool’s Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta is scheduled for the 11th and 18th of April, and Quansah will hope to contribute to the team’s success in these crucial encounters. In between the European fixtures, Liverpool will also face Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Anfield on the 14th of April, further emphasizing the team’s focus on league matters.
