NBA playoff standings: Suns can still avoid play-in with 1 game left

The Phoenix Suns rebuilt around the Big Three of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, and they intend to be at the top of the Western Conference this season. Instead, first-year coach Frank Vogel’s club went into the last week of 2023-24 trying to escape the play-in tournament.

With one game remaining in the regular season, Phoenix still has a chance after defeating the Sacramento Kings 108-107 on Friday.

The Suns will now need to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday while the New Orleans Pelicans lose to the Los Angeles Lakers. New Orleans defeated the Golden State Warriors on Friday, securing a spot no lower than eighth in the rankings. The same is true for the Suns, with eighth place remaining to be decided between the Lakers, Kings, and Warriors.

Following the Denver Nuggets’ loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, a three-way tie at the top of the West gives Minnesota something to play for against Phoenix on Sunday. However, the Lakers also won, putting L.A. in a higher play-in game against New Orleans.
