On Tuesday night, the Sacramento Kings defeated the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the NBA’s Play-In Tournament. They lost badly, 118-94, and were never truly in the game, particularly in the second half.
This capped off an overall poor season for the Warriors, who have been the NBA’s dominant force since the mid-2010s. In that period, the Warriors have made six NBA Finals trips, winning four of them, the most recent in 2021-22.
Last year, the Warriors were eliminated in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers. And this year, they failed to make the playoffs.
This latest setback seems like the unofficial end to the Warriors’ dynasty. After dominating the game for a decade, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green may finally be on their way out — and the rest of the NBA isn’t exactly sorry about it.
Following the Warriors’ setback on Tuesday night, rival Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić took to social media. He published two posts on his X account, one with a gif that states, “That’s All Folks,” and another with two laughing emojis:
Nurkić appeared to take particular satisfaction in the Warriors’ setback and elimination from postseason contention, which is understandable given the circumstances. Nurkić and Green had a year-long feud between the Suns and Warriors, beginning with Green’s indefinite suspension (later reduced to 12 games) for hitting Nurkić in the face on December 12.
Later in the season, on Feb. 10, the two had another in-game incident, and Nurkić was quick to criticize Green after the game.
“It’s sad,” Nurkic told reporters. “He learned nothing. It’s only a question of time. He’s going to knock someone else again. I take back everything I said. “He does not deserve a chance.”
Green responded to Nurkic on his podcast: “What happened in that game with me that would drive you to say something like that, other than being embarrassed because you’re not good enough?I don’t know. I believed it was ridiculous to question my character because I destroyed you on the basketball court.”
Nurkić’s Suns avoided the Play-In Tournament, clinching the No. 6 seed in the West on the final day of the regular season. The Suns will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs after the Play-In Tournament, which ends Friday.
