For Liverpool’s rivals, Manchester City and Arsenal, who stand to gain from Liverpool’s recent setbacks, the loss will surely be reason for rejoicing. As Klopp’s team struggles to win the Premier League, Arsenal and Manchester City will probably see Liverpool’s wastefulness as a benefit to their own title hopes. Liverpool will have to lament lost chances and try to bounce back in their remaining games to save their season and finish in the top half of the league rankings as the figҺt for the championship heats up.

After the match Klopp said: “We are not safe in the Champions League [qualification], we have to win football matches.”

“We are in a rush in front of goal. I blame the United game for it, you create that many chances and you don’t get anything for it. You create and don’t score often enough.”

“It was not good enough… I really feel for the people and I am really sorry. I apologise for that.”

“Two goals from set pieces. We created a lot but didn’t score. Then second half, emotions, in a rush. Then the second goal, we just didn’t defend it well enough.”

“We were not good enough.”
