The Reds are faced with a conundrum as a result of PSG’s discussions with Diaz’s representative to determine whether he would be interested in joining the club this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph. The winger is still under contract for three more years, but he hasn’t signed a five-year extension. Liverpool is reportedly undecided if he will stay for the full term or if he would go this summer, when the Reds could still demand a premium price from any prospective suitor.
Although Barcelona is rumored to be interested in Diaz, it would be challenging for them to match Liverpool’s £75 million ($95 million) asking price for the Colombian international. The managerial issue adds even more complexity to the matter; rumors have it that the Reds are getting close to signing Ruben Amorim to succeed Jurgen Klopp, and Diaz actually has an agent with the Sporting CP manager.
Throughout his 42 games this season, Diaz has contributed four assists and 13 goals. In the last three games for Liverpool, he has either scored or assisted, and under Klopp, he is still an important player. With the Reds still to announce the selection of a new manager, Diaz’s status seems unlikely to be resolved anytime soon. It is reasonable to assume that Amorim would want to speak with the Colombian about his plans if he is selected.
