At Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai will don the number eight shirt.
The 22-year-old will just be the second Liverpool player to carry that squad number since club great Steven Gerrard retired it in 2015, after Naby Keita.
Szoboszlai, who paid £60 million to join Liverpool on Sunday from RB Leipzig, was a fan of Gerrard in his youth.
He was so motivated by the great Liverpool captain to get a tattoo.
Szoboszlai was questioned, “You’ve picked the shirt number eight, obviously a well-known number at Liverpool,” during his first interview with the team’s official website. What causes that to be the case?
“Not for any particular reason, but it’s a great number; many great players have had this number,” he retorted. Steven Gerrard also mentioned that he had a tattoo on me, adding, “I can’t remember when, but it was before.”Furthermore, there was a rationale.
“To be honest, I didn’t watch that much football when I was younger, but of course when it was Champions League or a big game, I was watching Liverpool, the big teams and also the big players – and he was one of the biggest,” the athlete remarked of Gerrard.
The tattoo in question is meant to represent a line that was originally credited to Gerrard. It was translated from English into Hungarian and inked on Szoboszlai’s torso.
Szoboszlai’s tattoo was reportedly inspired by Gerrard’s statement, which she said, “Talent is a blessing from God, but without incredible will and humility.” This is according to Index.hu.

Many of Liverpool’s recent acquisitions look up to Gerrard because of his successes as the team’s captain, especially in Istanbul.
Szoboszlai also got a tattoo that said, “Talent is a divine blessing, but without incredible will and humility, it is worth nothing,” because the well-known midfielder so greatly influenced him.
When the 22-year-old initially came at Anfield, LFCTV asked him about his feelings about donning the No. 8 jersey.

And I answered, “Not [for] a special reason, but of course it’s a great number,” and he said, “Oh, I see.”
Several great athletes have worn this jersey number.
In addition, I have a tattoo of Steven Gerrard’s nаme. What he said… I can’t place it in time, but it was before… which was another reason why.
Previous to Gerrard, Emile Heskey wore the No. 8 jersey, as did Oyvind Leonhardsen, Stan Collymore, Jamie Redknapp, and Paul Stewart during the Premier League period.
It appears that the current day’s famous 43-year-old was a major inspiration for Szoboszlai to develop this.
