A striker with superstar potential has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. The child in question is the offspring of a cult icon from the past Premier League. As if that weren’t enough, he led the Reds’ Under-14 team to 90 goals in one season of play. In addition, he plays young international for the United States. Last year, he scored seven goals to help his team advance to the CONCACAF U17 Championship final, where they were defeated by Mexico. He competed in the U17 World Cup as well, finishing in the final 16. Keyrol Figueroa, 17, is the wonderkid in question. His father, Maynor Figueroa, played in the Premier League for Hull City and Wigan Athletic from 2008 to 2015.
The 17-year-old scored an astonishing 90 goals in one season for the Under-14s
Born in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Figueroa Jr. seemed destined to carry on his father’s legacy by entering the Premier League.
In February, it was originally rumored that Liverpool was negotiating a professional contract for the young talent.
Figueroa enrolled in Liverpool’s academy as an Under-14 player, and although still competing for the Under-16 squad, he made his Under-18 team debut in the 2021–2022 campaign.
In eight U18s Premier League games this season, he has scored three goals, and the next stage of his growth will be to play for the U21s.
In 585 games played for his club, his father Maynor only managed 22 goals.
In addition, he had a very legendary Honduran international career, with FIFA officially listing his total caps at 181, however sources vary between 148 and 181.
That puts him one cap ahead of Lionel Messi’s total for Argentina and makes him the seventh most-capped player of all time.
Maynor Figueroa turned out for Wigan Athletic and Hull City in the Premier League
If his son can emulate anything like the career he had, he’ll have done well, though the sky is the limit with a 90-goal season on his CV and his first pro deal at Liverpool.
Liverpool have a strong tradition of bringing through youngtsers and Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley have made a particular impression this campaign, becoming frist-team regulars.
