Aston Villa will face Liverpool in the latest match of the 37th round of the Premier League.
Despite Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Burnley, Aston Villa still holds a significant advantage in the race for the top four in the Premier League. They are currently four points ahead of Spurs with both teams having played 36 matches. A win against Liverpool would secure Unai Emery’s side a spot in the Champions League next season.
However, securing three points against Liverpool will not be an easy task, even with the advantage of playing at home.
In reality, Liverpool has already achieved their goal of securing a Champions League spot and no longer has a chance to compete for the title. Nevertheless, they will still give their all in the remaining two matches under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Recent head-to-head records also heavily favor Liverpool. The “Reds” are undefeated in their last five meetings with Villa, securing four wins and one draw. However, Villa’s most recent victory against Liverpool was a remarkable 7-2 result at Villa Park in October 2020.
In terms of personnel, Aston Villa will have to assess the fitness of Morgan Rogers, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Youri Tielemans. All three players were absent in the midweek match against Olympiakos. On the other hand, Jacob Ramsey, Tyrone Mings, Emi Buendia, and Boubacar Kamara are all long-term absentees.
On the Liverpool front, there have been no new injury concerns. Ben Doak, Joel Matip, and Thiago Alcantara are all confirmed to be out for the remainder of the season.
Expected lineups:
Aston Villa: Robin Olsen, Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres, Lucas Digne, John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, Morgan Rogers, Moussa Diaby, Ollie Watkins.
Liverpool: Alisson, Trent-Alexander Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz.
