Journalist Piers Morgan sarcastically criticized Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, saying that winning the Premier League title in eight years is not enough for him to be considered a “Premier League legend”. Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the current season after over 8 years in charge.
During his time as Liverpool manager, Klopp led the team to their first Premier League championship in 30 years in the 2019-20 season, as well as their 6th UEFA Champions League title among other trophies.
This season, Liverpool was in the title race until the end but was officially eliminated after a 3-3 draw with Aston Villa on May 19th.
Reacting to Klopp being called a “Premier League legend,” Morgan said he does not believe winning one league title in 8 years is enough to earn that status. He views Klopp as an excellent coach, but not a true “legend” of the league.
Klopp has confirmed he plans to take an extended break from coaching after leaving Liverpool and will not return to manage another Premier League club, stating “my time in England is over, as I will never coach another team here.”
In his farewell address to Liverpool fans, Klopp expressed his gratitude and said he will continue to be a fan of the club. He encouraged the supporters to welcome the new manager and continue believing in Liverpool’s vision, even through difficult times.
