Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made an emotional return to the city to attend a tribute event organized by the club, where he bid a final farewell to The Kop’s faithful.
Liverpool’s current manager Arne Slot isn’t the only new face gearing up to start work at Anfield. Klopp, after spending some time in Spain with his wife Ulla following Liverpool’s final game against Wolves at Anfield, returned to Liverpool to attend the “An Evening with Jurgen Klopp” event – a farewell tribute organized by the club, giving him the opportunity to bid a final farewell to Liverpool fans.
Klopp announced his decision to step down as Liverpool’s manager in January 2024, with Arne Slot appointed as his successor from the upcoming season. In his final season at Anfield, Klopp secured the Carabao Cup title and led Liverpool to a memorable victory in his final match in charge.
At the event hosted by John Bishop and Peter McDowall, Klopp shared stories from his memorable nine years at Merseyside. The evening featured performances by Liverpool bands Lightning Seeds and The Zutons, and was attended by thousands of Liverpool fans. As the ceremony unfolded, fans cheered Klopp’s name, applauded continuously, and sang the club’s anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as a final farewell tribute to the revered tactician in the club’s history.
A video shared on social media captured Klopp’s emotional reaction, as he briefly broke down in tears, hugged his face, then stood up, placed his hand on his chest, and raised his fist towards the enthusiastic crowd.
During the tribute, Klopp also shared his thoughts on his successor at Liverpool, Arne Slot, stating: “I’ve spoken to quite a few people in the new leadership team. He (Slot) is a really good manager.”
Klopp’s positive endorsement of the beloved coach will instill confidence in Liverpool fans as they head into the new season. Slot is expected to repay the faith of the Anfield hierarchy by helping the club clinch titles in his debut season in the Premier League.
