According to reports, Bundesliga stars have chosen a former Liverpool player as the season’s most disappointing player.
It is said that 227 Bundesliga players participated in a poll where they shared their thoughts on a variety of subjects, such as the worst manager of the year and who they think will win the Euros.
According to Kicker, one of the categories was “worst player in the Bundesliga,” and a midfielder who recently signed from a Premier League team won the most votes (25.6%) from other professionals.
The player, who had cost the Reds around £50 million, moved to Germany in the summer on a free transfer from the English team.
Everything did not go as planned, though, as after a disagreement with the team, he only made five appearances for the club and was accused of not wanting to participate in a match.
The player was Naby Keita, who has played 106 minutes for Werder Bremen and was suspended by the club in April
It was former Liverpool man Naby Keita who topped the vote, with the 29-year-old refusing to play for new side Werder Bremen earlier in the campaign.
With great expectations for a comeback, Keita signed with the German team, but he hasn’t played since declining to appear in his team’s April matchup against Bundesliga winners Bayer Leverkusen.
After leaving Anfield last summer, he has had a difficult first season in Germany. Due to injuries, he has only made five appearances in the league, playing 106 minutes overall.
The 29-year-old made two stand-in appearances prior to his absence after recovering from his most recent illness in March.
Clemens Fritz, the director of Bremen, claimed that Keita was going to suffer “consequences” for his refusal to go with his teammates. The first season of his three-year deal came to an uninteresting conclusion when he was suspended for the rest of the campaign.
Replying that he ‘wоuld nоt allоw any persоn trying tо destrоy my image’, he disputed the allegatiоns.
Fritz stated before to the match that “Naby Keita decided not to get on the bus and to go home after finding out that he would not be playing vs. Leverkusen from the start.”
“We’ll discuss the options and potential outcomes with Keita and his representative.”
Elsewhere in the vote, 39.2 per cent of participants voted that Germany will win Euro 2024, with 22 per cent going with France and 15.4 per cent England.
51.1 per cent of voters picked out Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as the star man from the league, with his manager, Xabi Alonso, chosen by 60.4 per cent as the best manager.
Nenad Bjelica, who was sacked by Union Berlin during the campaign, was picked out by 18.1 per cent as the worst manager.
