On the evening of June 15, the Hungarian team played their first EURO 2024 encounter against Switzerland in Group A. Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai made history by becoming the youngest player to wear the captain’s armband at the EURO playground.
Szoboszlai is the youngest captain in Euro history.
Szoboszlai is just 23 years, 7 months, and 21 days old. The Liverpool midfielder demonstrated that he is really Hungary’s best player.
However, in Hungary’s first EURO encounter, Szoboszlai was defeated 1-3 by Switzerland.
This player assisted Varga in scoring in the second half, although the goal was to close the margin for Hungary, after Switzerland scored twice in the first half courtesy to Duah and Aebischer.
While Hungary was still hunting for an equaliser, Switzerland scored the game-winning goal in the 90+3 minute through Embolo, securing a 3-1 victory.
Switzerland’s three points helped it momentarily sit second in Group A, trailing Germany. Meanwhile, Hungary’s and Szoboszlai’s chances of continuing have diminished significantly as a result of this defeat.
