Virgil van Dijk has taken the lead in Easter celebrations among footballers past and present, joined by figures such as Thomas Muller, David Beckham, and Kaka.
The influential Liverpool center-back is sidelined due to a knee injury and isn’t expected to return for Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season following a reckless tackle by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during October’s Merseyside derby.
Despite his injury, Van Dijk shared a photo of himself alongside someone dressed in a life-sized Easter bunny costume, captioned: “Happy Easter from me and the big guy!” followed by a rabbit emoji.
Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, now 36 and last representing Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, celebrated Easter from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, sharing a selfie and extending Easter wishes to his followers.
Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi, who participated in the intense October derby, posed with a chocolate Easter egg in hand.
Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller shared a video of himself enjoying outdoor activities with a horse, while his former teammate Philipp Lahm from the German giants posted a picture of his family engaged in Easter egg painting. Lahm’s caption emphasized the family activity and extended warm Easter wishes to all.
Several retired football legends also joined in, expressing festive sentiments on Instagram.
English icon David Beckham shared a family photo with wife Victoria, sons Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz, and daughter Harper Seven, with Victoria and Harper donning Easter bunny ears. Beckham’s post included a caption wishing everyone a happy Easter and showcasing a table with a beer and an open packet of Mini Eggs.
Meanwhile, former Real Madrid midfielder Kaka, who earned 92 caps for Brazil, also posted an Easter message reflecting on his faith.
