Liverpool have been linked with several defensive midfielders, the most recent of them being Adam Wharton.
David Lynch has disclosed that the Reds admire the Crystal Palace player and are keen in acquiring his services.
“Adam Wharton is definitely someone Liverpool have watched, they’ve liked him in the past.”
The 20-year-old playmaker joined the Eagles in the winter transfer window this year for £22 million from Blackburn.
Following outstanding performances in the Premier League, Palace may want a cost of £100 million for their prized asset, who has also been linked with Manchester United.
He started 15 games in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
More crucially, Wharton helped the Selhurst Park club retain clean sheets against top-tier opponents such as Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Manchester United.
Back in April, at Anfield, he was outstanding in the defensive midfield role for Palace, who went on to defeat the Merseysiders 1-0, ending Jurgen Klopp’s ambition of winning the Premier League in his final season.
Wharton’s outstanding club performances won him a spot in the England squad for the European Championships.
However, the kid failed to make a single appearance for the Three Lions under Southgate, who chose Arsenal playmaker Declan Rice in the primary holding midfield position.
Last month, former Manchester United player Paul Parker lauded Wharton, claiming he is better than Bruno Fernandes. He said:
“Bruno’s is good, but I think he’s (Wharton) better. He doesn’t give the ball away as cheaply as Bruno.”
Have your say – Should Liverpool secure the signing of Adam Wharton to strengthen the DM position at Anfield?
