Declan Rice, the fashion enthusiast? It seems footballers and fashion are closely linked, and Rice is no different. In an interview with Men’s Health during his June cover shoot for England’s Euros campaign, Arsenal’s record signing discussed how fashion has become a significant part of his life off the field.
Rice shared with Men’s Health editor-at-large, Gordon Smart, “As I’ve gotten older, my style has evolved. I’ve developed a deep appreciation for fashion and have a wardrobe at home that I feel confident in and enjoy. It’s become a major passion of mine.”
His fashion journey wasn’t always so refined. Reflecting on his past, Rice admits he has some style regrets from his younger years. “When I was younger, I probably bought some questionable items,” he confesses. “But as I’ve grown older, my style has definitely improved. Everyone has those moments where you look back and think, ‘What was I wearing?'”
Rice credits his mother, Stephanie, for influencing his early fashion choices. He recalls, “My mum had a big say in what I wore. She’d say, ‘You can wear this, but not that,’ and I’d just go along with it.”
These days, Rice enjoys curating his wardrobe and no longer wears anything he considers questionable. “I don’t wear anything that I’d call rascal now. Maybe this,” he laughs, pointing to the knitted burgundy, white, and black Amiri cardigan he’s sporting for the shoot. “I really like it,” he adds more seriously. “Some of the guys will definitely joke about it, but I’m standing firm. I like it.”
