Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on Julian Alvarez following recent hints about his future from Manchester City. The striker has thrived at The Etihad since joining two years ago, securing back-to-back Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup, in addition to winning the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina.
Despite his success, Alvarez, 24, has voiced frustration about being sidelined in crucial matches and has indicated he will reflect on his future after his team’s exit from the Olympics. This situation has put Arsenal on high alert, as noted by The Mirror.
Arsenal are long-time admirers of Alvarez but might hesitate to meet City’s £80 million asking price. Although Pep Guardiola has previously stated he wouldn’t block a discontented player from leaving, City’s valuation remains a significant hurdle.
While Arsenal had not planned for a major signing following their investments in Riccardo Calafiori and David Raya, they might consider making an exception for Alvarez. To fund such a move, the club could potentially sell academy products Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah, who are reportedly attracting interest from Leicester and Marseille, respectively.
Alvarez is also drawing interest from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid. Reflecting on his situation, Alvarez shared: “Last season, I played more minutes than most City players, but it’s tough being left out of key games. I haven’t yet decided on my future. Once the Olympics are over, I’ll take time to consider what’s next for me.”
