Manchester United have made their initial offer for Burnley midfielder Sander Berge, according to reports.
The Red Devils are actively seeking a new midfielder to strengthen their squad and improve upon last season’s underwhelming performance. They have been linked with several central midfielders, including Berge and PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.
Ugarte, who was omitted from PSG’s squad for their Ligue 1 opener amid interest from Manchester United, is believed to be their primary target. However, with significant differences in valuation between United and PSG for the Uruguayan, United are now turning their focus toward Berge.
The Mail reports that Manchester United have proposed a deal for Berge but are currently far from meeting Burnley’s £30 million asking price. Despite this, personal terms with Berge are not expected to be an issue, as he is reportedly keen on joining United on a contract worth £100,000 per week.
Manchester United are prepared to offer around £20 million for the Norwegian, but this amount is still well below Burnley’s asking price.
The Mail also notes that Ugarte remains Manchester United’s top choice, provided PSG is willing to lower their £52 million asking price, which reflects the amount they paid to acquire him from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
United have already invested over £150 million this summer on new signings, including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui. There could be potential departures from Old Trafford as well, with speculation about the future of academy graduate Scott McTominay. McTominay, who is keen to remain in the Premier League if he leaves, is reportedly being pursued by Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Brighton.
