After missing out on a deal for Martin Zubimendi this summer, Liverpool remain determined to find the right addition for Arne Slot’s squad.
Slot utilized Ryan Gravenberch as Liverpool’s holding midfielder against Ipswich Town on Saturday, with the Dutch player making a strong impression in the second half. However, Liverpool could still benefit from new signings, particularly in central defense and on the wing.
Ibrahima Konate took over from Jarell Quansah at halftime in the recent game, indicating that Slot is still uncertain about the best partner for Virgil van Dijk.
Reports from TBR Football suggest that Liverpool are now contemplating a bold move for Ademola Lookman, who could enhance Slot’s attacking options. Lookman, who transferred from Everton to RB Leipzig for £23 million in 2019, is currently with Atalanta in Serie A. He was notably absent from their squad for the season opener last weekend due to ongoing speculation about his future.
Lookman has attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City this summer. He requested not to feature in Atalanta’s match against Lecce due to the growing interest, particularly from Paris Saint-Germain.
Although all three English clubs have been monitoring Lookman’s situation, none have advanced their interest so far. Lookman himself is reportedly eager to move to Paris and has communicated his preference to Atalanta’s management.
Earlier in the summer, it was suggested that Atalanta would demand around €60 million (£51 million) for Lookman, a player they are reluctant to part with, especially given Teun Koopmeiners—another player linked with Liverpool—might also be leaving.
While Koopmeiners could be heading to Juventus instead of Liverpool, a move for Lookman could split opinions among Liverpool fans, some of whom may still remember his time at Everton.
Nevertheless, Liverpool would certainly benefit from bolstering their attack as the long season progresses.
