Wolves are making a move to acquire Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal, presenting a loan offer with an option to buy the goalkeeper next summer. However, they face stiff competition as Arsenal would prefer a permanent sale this transfer window. Ajax recently had a loan bid turned down, and Southampton and Bournemouth have also shown interest.
Ramsdale, who initially joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United in 2017 and then re-signed with the Blades in 2020, moved to Arsenal at the start of the 2021-22 season. At 26, he has earned five England caps and is eager to continue competing at the highest level.
Wolves are aware that completing the deal may be challenging due to financial constraints, as Ramsdale is under contract until 2026. Arsenal is willing to part with Ramsdale since David Raya has taken over as their first-choice goalkeeper following his permanent transfer from Brentford.
In an effort to bolster their squad, Arsenal also attempted to sign Wolves’ backup goalkeeper Dan Bentley this window but saw a £50,000 offer rejected. Bentley was on the bench during Wolves’ 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates, with José Sá in goal.
Wolves’ head coach Gary O’Neil has acknowledged budgetary limitations despite recent player sales, including Pedro Neto and Maximilian Kilman for £54 million and £40 million respectively. “The budget doesn’t seem too different from last season,” O’Neil remarked, noting that the club is not in a position to make significant expenditures.
