Liverpool are nearing a deal to sign goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a £29.9 million transfer. The Reds have proposed an initial payment of £25.6 million, with an additional £4.3 million in potential add-ons. As part of the agreement, Mamardashvili is expected to remain on loan at Valencia for the remainder of the season.
This move is not expected to impact Liverpool’s current goalkeeping setup, as Alisson Becker will continue as the club’s number one goalkeeper. However, Liverpool are proactively scouting future prospects, and Mamardashvili has emerged as a promising talent for the long-term.
The 23-year-old Georgian gained significant attention during Euro 2024, playing a key role in helping Georgia advance to the last 16 for the first time. Since joining Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021, Mamardashvili has made 100 appearances and kept 31 clean sheets.
If the transfer is finalized, Mamardashvili would be Liverpool’s first signing since the appointment of head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes. Liverpool had previously targeted Martin Zubimendi, but the Spanish midfielder opted to stay at Real Sociedad.
